Obituary for Norman C. Alexander

Lt. Col. Norman C. Alexander, USAF Retired, age 75, of Saginaw, Texas, formerly of Weatherford, Texas, died Monday, November 11, 2013. Mr. Alexander was retired from Parker Hannifin Stratiflex Division, a member of Trinity Bible Church, the Weatherford Optimist Club and Society of Automotive Engineers. Norm was proud to be cow chip throwing champion of Parker County, 4H, Wrangler Riding Club, loved family, enjoyed traveling, restoring old cars and refurbishing older homes. Norman is survived by his wife, Debbie Alexander of Saginaw, Texas; daughters, Suzanne Delgado and husband Dave of Seattle, Washington, Mitzi Titzer and husband Pat of Centennial, Colorado; brother, George Alexander of Las Cruces, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Benjamin Titzer and Melanie Titzer. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, Weatherford, Texas. Interment will be in Annetta Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Galbreaith Pickard. Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Weatherford Center of Hope or Trinity Bible Church Benevolence Fund.

Robert Thomas (Bobby) Leslie, 69, St. Francisville, Louisianna, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013. Bobby was the youngest son of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. Paul Leslie of St. Francisville, La., also formerly of Jefferson City. Bobby graduated from Helias High School and Lincoln University, both in Jefferson City, Missouri. At both schools he played on championship golf teams later using his coaching talent at schools in Missouri and Louisiana. Bob was instrumental in starting a junior golf program for the State of Missouri that Professional golfer Payne Stewart credited him with creating his interest in playing professional golf. He taught for nearly 40 years, 30 of which were in Jackson, Louisiana where he was named Teacher of the Year for East Feliciana Parish in 1997-1998. He is survived by two brothers, James Paul Jr. of Thibodaux, and Perry Cole of Columbia, Mo.; three nephews, Paul, Perry, and Tommy Leslie; two nieces, Blair Henson and Genevieve Leslie and eight great-nephews and nieces. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the funeral service at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in St. Francisville, La. at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6. Burial was at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church Cemetery.

Bernard Louis "Ben" Wilbers, age 70, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday November 13, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. Ben was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School and Lincoln University, where he received his Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling. Ben loved his work as a Guidance Counselor for the Russellville School District as well as South Callaway School District in Mokane. Ben was an avid fisherman and loved to travel with the love of his life, his wife Irene. Ben loved all his children and grandchildren and would often be found at one of their sporting or musical events. He was their biggest and sometimes most vocal supporter. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Irene of Jefferson City; three sons: Louis Wilbers and his wife Kathy of Blue Springs, Missouri, Mike Wilbers and his wife Patty of Holts Summit, Missouri and Jeff Wilbers and his wife Lee Ann of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter: Julie Seymore and her husband Bo of Wentzville, Missouri and nine grandchildren: Matthew, Zach and Kelsey Wilbers, Jamie and Kristen Wilbers, Paige and Wyatt Seymore and Asher and Aiden Wilbers. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Fr. Loretta Terlton "Teri" Roark, 70, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born December 27, 1942, in Jefferson City, a daughter of James Roots and Lucille Maude Branch. She attended Jefferson City Public Schools. Loretta had worked at Lincoln University, International Shoe Factory and several family-owned restaurants, including the Beanery in Kansas City and Little Nel's CafÈ in Jefferson City. Since 1981, she's been a homemaker who enjoyed fishing, camping, visiting riverboat casinos, making handcrafted items and caring for her grandchildren. Survivors include four children: Tom Nichols (Virginia), Belinda Ousley (Lawrence), Perry "Pete" Redmon III, Tammy Smith, all of Jefferson City; five grandchildren: Nicole Beidleman (Rick), Michael Wimberly, Perry Redmon, Andrew Hopkins, Autum Fry; extended family members, Debbie Smith and Gail Oliver; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Margaret A. Clardy, age 94 years, of New Bloomfield, Mo., passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Adams Street Place. Margaret was born on April 13, 1919, on the family farm near Dysart, Iowa. She was the oldest daughter of Thomas and Edith Pratt Thiesen. She was a 1936 graduate of Geneseo Consolidated School and attended Iowa State Teacher's College and Gates Business College. She married Forest Clardy on May 15, 1943, while he was in ROTC school at Grinnell College. They lived there until his discharge in 1945 and relocated near her hometown to start farming. They moved to central Missouri in 1971 and she worked at the Family Services Department in Jefferson City retiring in 1984. She was an active member of the New Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Quilter's Circle, the XYZ Club and the Slusher Club. Survivors include: sister, Kathryn (Richard) Junker of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister-in-law, Berdeene Thiesen; nieces, Barbara (Barton) Elliott, Brenda Dyck, Roberta (Myrlen) Simmons and Geraldine (Don) Balkenbush; nephews, LeRoy Junker and Richard Clardy; and close friends, Dale and Bonnie Lawson. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Robert Thiesen; and nephew, Wallace Thiesen. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2013. Susan Hope Addison-Greco, 66, of San Francisco, Calif., passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013, in San Francisco, Calif. after a short battle with cancer. Susan was born in Jefferson City, Mo. on August 4, 1947. She was the daughter of Helen Thurston Addison and Nelse Addison. Susan was a 1965 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. She is survived by her husband, Ron Greco and several cousins. Susan is preceded in death by her mother, who passed away in 1999 and father, who passed away in 2011. Her body was cremated under the direction of Neptune Society of Northern California, San Francisco and will be interred in the San Francisco Columbarium, California.

Elmer John Blochberger, 93, of Holts Summit, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit. He was born December 24, 1919, in Cole County, Missouri, the son of the late J. Edward and Hilda (Kiesling) Blochberger. On November 14, 1948, he was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to Catherine M. Hammond, who preceded him in death on July 28, 2008. Elmer was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II, seeing service in North Africa and Europe, and received 7 Bronze Stars. After the War, he worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company for several years, then went to work at the United States Post Office, where he retired as a Clerk in 1985. Elmer was always a friendly and loving person, and loved to make people smile. Elmer is survived by a son: Samuel Edward Blochberger of Holts Summit; nine grandchildren: Alicia Stieferman, Jacob Blochberger, Katie Rusk, Leah Blochberger, Cory Hoss, Courtney Moody, Cara Trautman, Khala Janko, Caymen Hoss; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Mary Sue Blochberger; a great-grandson: Jack Stieferman; three brothers and one sister. Helen was born on September 23, 1917, in Peoria, Il., the daughter of James and Helen Howe Waring. She was married on April 21, 1946, to Mylo Charles Walker in Savanna, Ill., and he preceded her in death on February 13, 1991. Helen graduated from Savanna Township High School near Chicago. She was employed as a sales representative for many years with Watkins Products. Helen was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where she served as director of the Altar Guild and volunteered at the Resell-It-Shop. She was a member of the Jane Randolph Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteered for many years at Capital Region Medical Center. Survivors include: her nephew, James Waring of Phoenix, Ariz.; two nieces, Pam (Larry) Gossett of Germantown, Tenn. and Jodie (David) Pearah of Boca Grande, Fla.; and her special Jefferson City family: Max, Holly, Claire, Glenn and Amanda Joyce. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mylo; one brother, James Waring; and two sisters, Mary Dickson and Joan Hawkins. Nicholas B. Hampton, 33, of Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Bedford, Ind., died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at his residence. Born August 25, 1980 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Brian Hampton and Nancy (Benham) Hampton Goode. He was a seed collector for Missouri Wildflower Nursery, Jefferson City, Mo. and a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, Ind. Nicholas had a passion for living and was a devoted friend. He enjoyed gourmet cooking; loved outdoor activities; and was a musician, playing both the guitar and percussion instruments. He was a very free spirit. Surviving are his mother, Nancy (James) Benham Goode, Jefferson City, Mo.; his father, Brian Hampton, Anderson, Ind.; one brother, Matthew Hampton, Oolitic, Ind.; his maternal grandmother, Eileen Benham, Bedford, Ind.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, Ind. with Fr. Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Ethel M. Duncan, age 91, of Ellington, departed this life on November 13, 2013, at Brent B. Tinnin Manor in Ellington. She was born in Bonne Terre, Missouri, on January 28, 1922, the daughter of the late Olive Chloe Carpenter Brunk and John Wesley Brunk. Ethel was married to James Albert from 1938 until 1960; later married John Johnson in 1962, who preceded her in death in 1982; and she then married William Duncan in 1984 and he preceded her in death in 1998. Ethel attended Redford School. She was a member of the Redford Baptist Church and Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo. Ethel was a resident of Jefferson City, Mo. from 1955 until 1987. While in Jefferson City, she owned and operated John & Ethel's Place from 1960 until 1986 and then returned to Redford. After a few years in Redford she returned to Jefferson City. She moved back to Reynolds County four years ago. Ethel was a former Girl Scout leader and she volunteered at St. Mary's Rehabilitation Center at Villa Marie in 1998, as well as working in home health. Ethel loved helping anyone in need; she was very independent and didn't want to burden anyone and she remained that way until her death. Ethel enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, family gatherings, and listening to bands as well as her family play music. She had a green thumb and she loved tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Ethel is survived by seven sons, J.R. Albert (Wanda) of Jonesboro, Ark., Elvis Albert of Redford, Mo., Bill Albert (Marilyn) of Piedmont, Mo., Larry Albert of Jefferson City, Mo., Carson Dayley (Kim) of Strafford, Va., Elmer Jackson (Colleen) of Saskatchewan, Canada, Andy Anderson (Sue) Washington, D.C; four daughters, Nora Morris of Ellington, Anna Duncan (Joe) Warsaw, Mo., Faye Jewell of Ellington, Betty Powell (John) of Jefferson City, Mo.; 46 grandchildren; a host of great and great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Brunk (Eunice) of Ellington, Mo. Ethel will be deeply missed by a host of relatives and many friends who will mourn her passing. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; six sons, Truman, Eddie, John, Bob, David and Gladden Paul Albert; three daughters, Mable Ross, Gladys Pauline Albert and Macie Barnes; five grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Brunk; and three sisters, Elsie Peak, Nell Delashmit and Dorothy Simmons. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, at 1 p.m. with funeral services following at 3 p.m. at the McSpadden Funeral Home, Ellington, with Minister Kelly Chilton officiating. Alma Selma Sommerer, 100, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Jefferson City Manor. She was born March 4, 1913, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Richard and Leona Loesch Goldammer. She attended Trinity Lutheran School. On February 14, 1947, Alma was united in marriage at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in St. Louis to Erhardt Mathias Sommerer, who preceded her in death on December 29, 1996. Alma was a housekeeper for various families in the area for over 30 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the church's Women's Auxiliary. She is survived by one son: Leon G. Sommerer of Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter: Carolyn J. Schlichtmann and husband David of Jefferson City; three grandchildren: Craig Schlichtmann of St. Louis, Cassica Jobe and husband Justin of Fairmont, Minnesota, Carissa Schlichtmann of Cleveland, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren: Cailwyn, Cadleigh and Clairann Jobe. Alma was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane Lynn Sommerer, on November 16, 1955; four brothers: Edwin, Albert, Harry and Tommy Goldammer; and three sisters: Minnie Zumwalt, Clara Goldammer and Aleda Thiel. Edward "Eddie" Bauer, age 87, of Rich Fountain, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013, at Westphalia Hills in Westphalia. Eddie was born on August 6, 1926, in Rich Fountain, a son to the late Robert and Viola (Ruder) Bauer. On April 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Clara Brandt in Rich Fountain. She preceded him in death on May 3, 1994. Eddie served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed farmer and brick mason. He also worked at Quaker Window Products until his retirement in 1997. Eddie was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Rich Fountain community. He was also a member of the America Legion. He was an avid card player and a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan. Eddie is survived by: two sons, Robert C. Bauer and his wife Denise of Rich Fountain and LeRoy E. Bauer and his wife Gayla of Rich Fountain; two daughters, Diane M. Gamble of Jefferson City and Janice A. Peters and her husband Michael of Chamois; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to his spouse and parents, he was preceded in death by: one daughter, Janet Bauer and one sister, Elsie Ruder. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Susan Hope Addison-Greco, 66, of San Francisco, Calif., passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013, in San Francisco, Calif., after a short battle with cancer. Susan was born in Jefferson City, Mo. on August 4, 1947. She was the daughter of Helen Thurston Addison and Nelse Addison. Susan was a 1965 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. She is survived by her husband, Ron Greco and several cousins. Susan was preceded in death by her mother, who passed away in 1999 and father, who passed away in 2011. Her body was cremated under the direction of Neptune Society of Northern California, San Francisco and will be interred in the San Francisco Columbarium, California.

Gail Finch Hubbell, 75, of Columbia, entered into rest on Monday, November 11, 2013. She was born September 1, 1938, the daughter of James Austin and Helen Carroll Finch. Gail's education included graduation from Cape Girardeau, Central High School; University of Missouri at Columbia; and Central Methodist College Nursing School at Fayette. Her activities and volunteering interests included Chapter AZ of PEO; Constance Circle of King's Daughters; City Union and State Offices of King's Daughters; Delta Delta Delta sorority; Boone County Medical Alliance; Knitting Study Groups; Board of Directors Friends of Music; First Monday Book Club; MUMC Breakfast Group Church Circle; Last Wednesday Bridge Club and Monday Mah Jong Group. In the past, she was a member of Argonauts Investment Club; Missouri Theatre Board of Directors; University of Missouri Friends of the Library; Daniel Boone Library Foundation Board and the MUMC Building Committee. Her interests included knitting, reading, and an enjoyment of music. Gail is survived by her husband, Dr. Ira G. Hubbell of 30 years; her son, Gregory Alan Sickal (Sue); her brothers, James Austin Finch III (Carolyn) and John David Finch (Kay); her grandsons, Thomas Ira Atkins and Andrew Finch Atkins; a cousin, Sarah Putsavage (Larry) and a step-son, George Peyton Hubbell (Vicki, Alex, Kate). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tamara Gail Atkins. Private interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, November 29, 2013, followed by a Memorial Service at Missouri United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. A gathering of family and friends follows the memorial service.
