Jude Alexander Koenigsfeld, 21, of Jefferson City, passed away tragically Tuesday, June 30, 2015, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born January 2, 1994, in Jefferson City, the son of Wesley Joseph Koenigsfeld and Mary Margaret "Meg" Churchill. Jude was a 2013 graduate of Jefferson City High School. Jude worked with his father at Toby's Cabinet Shop and had also worked at Wal-Mart. Jude could always be found hanging with his friends. He loved to play video games with friends and to go kayaking. Omer A. Legreid, 86, of Quincy, Ill., passed from this world to eternal peace on Thursday, July 2, 2015. He was born May 6, 1929, in Rake, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Agnes Herron Legreid, who preceded him in death. Omer was baptized June 9, 1929, and confirmed on January 10, 1943, at the Rake Zion Lutheran Church. On June 12, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Vivian N. Kress. Omer and Vivian just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family. He graduated high school from Rake, Iowa and was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving in Seoul, Korea during the Korean War in the Air Evac. Unit. Prior to Korea, he was stationed at the Brookley AFB, in Mobile, Ala., as part of the Military Air Transport Service. He spent time in many cities and countries in the world during his military career. He earned his Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Iowa at Iowa City, Iowa, and then continued with graduate school. Omer worked for the Social Security Administration for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1987, as an Operational Supervisor. He was active in all aspects of the Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime Elks Club member. He enjoyed golf, fishing, walking, reading and all outside activities, especially watching the birds. In addition to his wife, survivors include: four children, Sonja J. (Keith) Richardson of Aurora, Colo., Benita L. Hinsey of Lakewood, Colo., Kevin O. (Juanita) Legreid, of Holts Summit, Mo., and Lorna M. (Dennis Crowley) Legreid of Chapin, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Rodney Debus, Shane Rued, Erin and Zachary Hinsey, Laurel and Caley Legreid and Amber Crowley; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Hull and Kierra Legreid; three step-grandchildren, Matt Kauffman, Nick (Renee) Kauffman and Tony (Lisa) Kauffman; six step-great-grandchildren, Jordan Reeves, Brandon, Brittney, Braedy, Kole and Klay Kauffman; a step-great-great-grandchild, Adrian Silvey; a brother, Kenny (Konnie) Legreid; and a sister, Levine Bennett. Helen Sarah (McMahon) Bottenfield, 100, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 16, 2015, at St. Joseph's Bluffs in Jefferson City, Mo., where she had resided for the past 16 months. She was a former resident of St. Agnes Home in Kirkwood, Mo. and of Shrewsbury, Mo. Helen was born in St. Louis on December 2, 1914 in St. Louis, Mo., the second daughter of Enos J. and Frances T. McMahon. Helen was married in St. Louis on June 16, 1941, to John Patrick Bottenfield, who served as a U.S. Army Major in Europe during World War II. He died in 1994. After high school graduation, Helen worked at a St. Louis shoe company, drawing women's' shoes for marketing brochures. Throughout her life, she wrote letters, even after it became unfashionable, and often drew sketches on the envelopes. She was a dedicated Girl Scout leader, softball coach and classroom volunteer. She worked in customer service for Lammert Furniture Company and Famous-Barr Department Store throughout the 1950's to 1970's. She was a member of Cathedral of St. Joseph, Jefferson City, and a fifty year member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Shrewsbury, Mo. before moving to Jefferson City to be closer to her daughter. She is survived by two daughters: Helen Patricia Clendenin (Edward), Georgetown, Texas and Mary Elizabeth Kliethermes (James), Jefferson City, Mo. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Timothy Watkins, Daniel Watkins (Maria), Matthew Watkins and Carrie Watkins O'Neill (John), all of St. Louis, Mo.; Amy Lovelace (Eric), Leawood, Kan.; Ellen Dickman (Scott), St. Louis, Mo.; Karen James (Dustin), Joplin, Mo.; and John Kliethermes (Ingrid), Keswick, Va.; and 15 great-grandchildren: Allison Watkins; Dominic, Katia and Jonah Watkins; Molly, Meghan and Patrick O'Neill; Emma and Ian Lovelace; Sebastian and William Dickman; Wilder and Pearson James; and Louis and Daniel Kliethermes. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters: Mary Jane McMahon, Rosemary Singer O'Hare, and Frances McMahon. David "Dave" L. Carter, age 63, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015. Dave was born March 31, 1952, in St. Joseph, Missouri, a son to the late Lowell Carter and Gertrude (Cox) Carter, who survives of St. Joseph, Missouri. Dave was a 1970 graduate of Central High School in St. Joseph. On November 1, 1972, he was united in marriage to Elaine Catherine Otto in Palmyra, Missouri. She survives of the home. Dave was employed for almost 45 years with CenturyLink working his way up to District Manager. He retired on June 5, 2015. Dave was a member of numerous civic organizations and was very much community minded. He enjoyed dirt bike riding, snow skiing, hunting, playing the guitar, woodworking and farming. Dave was very active either coaching, umpiring or refereeing sporting events. He loved spending time with his family and was especially proud that he had taught all of his grandchildren how to swim. In addition to his spouse of 42 years and his mother, Dave is survived by: two daughters, Jill Tschappler and her husband Terry of Linn and Erin Brandt and her husband Terry of Jefferson City; five grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Dr. Leo Stifel Shanley, DDS, age 85, died Friday, July 3, 2015. He was born in St. Louis on December 12, 1929, to Dr. Leo M and Marie (Stifel) Shanley. After graduating from John Burroughs High School, he attended Brown University graduating in 1952. He went on to Washington University to get his Doctorate of Dental Sciences. After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, he returned to St. Louis and began practicing orthodontics with his father. He continued to see patients until he retired in 1993. Dr. Shanley taught for many years at the Washington University School of Dentistry and was awarded Professor of Emeritus. His hobbies included fly fishing, bass fishing, photography and birding. He was also a member of the St. Louis Rambler Rugby Club. Leo is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean (Cartwright) Shanley; his son, Michael and his wife Laurie; his son, Anthony and his wife Jill; and his grandchildren, Sydney, Abigail, Anthony and Connor. Sister Frances Ann (Betty Pat) Eveler SSND, 85, died on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Motherhouse in St. Louis after a short battle with cancer. She was born January 8, 1930, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Sam and Frances (Wallau) Eveler. Betty Pat received 12 years of education at St. Peter Grade and High School where she was taught by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She entered the Candidature for SSND in 1948 and took her final vows on August 2, 1957. During the first 25 years of her vocation, Sister Frances Ann taught elementary students at St. Raphael, St. Louis, Mo.; St. Mary, Alton, Ill.; St. Anthony, Sullivan, Mo.; St. Martin, Jefferson City, Mo.; Sacred Heart, Popular Bluff, Mo.; St. Boniface, Quincy, Ill.; and Sacred Heart, DuQuoin, Ill. She also served as Principal at St Boniface and Sacred Heart. After spending 25 years teaching in the States, she volunteered for the St. Louis Province mission in West Africa. In 1976, she was missioned to Our Lady of Lourdes, Port Loko, Sierra Leone. She taught and supervised religion classed and trained catechists and teachers. She was later missioned to Kabala to teach in the secondary school, and In the evenings, she taught classes of sewing, needle work, typing, nutrition and health to the women in the town. After 11 years in Africa, she returned to the states and became a pastoral minister among the Hmong refugees in Merced, Calif. She tutored and was an advocate for the refugees from Laos, and served as chaplain for a hospice organization. In 1993, she returned to St. Louis and joined the Resource Development staff as Missions Education Coordinator. For the next 11 years, she shared her mission experience with children in classrooms and other adult and parish groups raising awareness of the SSND missions, and seeking to instill a global and social awareness in her listeners. Then in 2004, at the age of 74, Sr. Frances Ann started a new phase in her life of ministry as a seamstress in the Liturgical Fabric Arts Department. She made vestments, banners, altar linens, as well as, pieced quilts for the monthly SSND quilt raffle. She oversaw the displays in the Mission Parlor, and during the Christmas season, she arranged over 180 multi-cultural Nativity scenes from 35 countries which she had collected over the years. She is survived by 18 nieces and nephews; 36 grand-nieces and nephews; and 38 great-grand-nieces and nephews, all of which loved and adored her. Sr. Frances Ann (Betty Pat) was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Frances Eveler; five siblings, Carl Eveler, Mary Ann (Eveler) Struemph, Jack Eveler, Germaine (Eveler) Deeken, Marjorie Eveler; and two nephews, Jerry Struemph, and Dan Deeken. Sister Frances Ann loved life and God's nature. She readily gave of her gifts and talents for the good of others. Her missionary heart and dedication inspired family and friends alike. May she now rejoice and dance with the angels and saints in praising her God. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 13, 2015, at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Motherhouse. Interment was held at SSND Motherhouse Cemetery.
