Janice A Maddox, 52, of Fulton, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014, at Boone Hospital Center, surrounded by her husband and sons. She was born November 2, 1962, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Thomas Brondel and Lorene (Pirner) Brondel of Fulton. On October 6, 1984, Janice was united in marriage to William Dale Maddox at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fulton. He survives her passing. Janice and her brother, Mitchell, owned and operated Tom's Cleaners in Fulton. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Dale; sons, William Maddox (Kristen) of Fulton, and Benjamin Thomas Maddox (Candice) of Fulton; mother, Lorene Brondel; brothers, Mitchell Brondel of Fulton, Wayne Brondel of Auxvasse, and Kent Brondel of North Carolina; sisters, Charlotte O'Neal of Kansas City, and Denise Graves (Mike) of Kingdom City; grandchildren, Gage, Audrey, and John; mother and father-in- law, Bob and Betty Maddox of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her father, Janice was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Brondel; and niece, Kassandra Brondel. Thelma A. Stone, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Ashland Healthcare Center. She was born on April 25, 1924, in Towanda, Illinois, a daughter of the late Jesse James and Bessie Jane (Arbuckle) Fordyce. She was united in marriage to Lyndle "Lynn" Stone on August 5, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, who preceded her in death on August 12, 1999. Thelma graduated from and was Salutatorian for Towanda High School in 1942. She was employed by Stewart-Warner in Chicago, Ill., co-owned The Lowry Motel and Equipment Leasing Company in Pittsfield, Ill., and co-owned the Montgomery Catalog Store in Dexter, Mo. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was active in the Mariner's Club. Thelma enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, bird watching and most importantly spending time with her family. She is survived by one son: Bill Stone (Jackie) of Wardsville; one daughter: Cherie Bishop (Bruce) of Jefferson City; five grandchildren: Craig Anthony Bishop (Callie) of Jefferson City, Sarah Ranay Bishop of Farmington, Abigail Kirby Stone (fiancÈ Tyler Roe) of Columbia, Kirk Avery Stone, of Columbia and Brady Alexander Stone of Wardsville; two great-grandchildren: Alder Anthony and Ainsley June Bishop of Jefferson City; one sister: Vera Elizabeth Krol of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; one brother: Herbert Frank Fordyce of Concord, Calif. Margie Marie Fahrni-Schneider, 89, of Russellville, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis. She was born January 11, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of the late Joe and Florence (George) Procter. She was married July 27, 1944, to Freman Fahrni, who preceded her in death on August 13, 1997. On February 21, 2004, she was married to LeRoy Schneider who resides at the home. Margie was a graduate of Russellville High School, Central Missouri State Teachers' College in Warrensburg, Missouri and Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She began her teaching career in the Corinth and Enon Rural Schools, then spent 11 years in the Russellville School System and 14 years in the Jefferson City Public School System, retiring in 1980. After retiring she wrote the Procter/Proctor Genealogy Book. Margie became a Christian and member of the Enon Baptist Church at age 11. She had been a member of Corticelli Baptist Church since 1970, where she taught Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School and Bible Drill classes for many years and also served as church treasurer for twelve years. Margie served on the Board of Regents at St. Marys Health Center for six years and was a volunteer in St. Marys' Intensive Care/Surgery waiting room for three years. She was a member of Retired Teacher's Association of Missouri and Cole County Retired Teacher's Association. She was also an active member of the Russellville High School Alumni Association, serving as an officer for many years. Besides her husband, LeRoy, Margie is also survived by a son, Don (LouAnn) Fahrni, Russellville; a granddaughter, Penny (Jeremy) Knoche, Russellville; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ava Knoche, LeRoy's children, John (Ana) Schneider, Los Angeles, California and Jean (Dale) Andersen, Stanton, North Carolina; LeRoy's grandsons, Jacob, Josh, Daniel, Benjamin and Samuel Andersen, LeRoy's granddaughter's, Sarah Hercilla and Mary and Kathy Schneider and LeRoy's great-grandchildren, Rosie, Lillie and Sami Hercilla and Amelia, Olivia and Hazel Andersen. Mr. James Douglas "Doug" Griswold, age 76 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Capital Region Medical Center. Doug was born November 28, 1938, in Fortuna, Mo., the son of Orie Vincent and Kathleen Norris Kays Griswold. He was married on June 12, 1959 in Lebanon, Kentucky, to Mary Adelene Crawford. Doug was a 1956 graduate of Tipton High School and attended Central Missouri State University. He was a 1959 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. In 1959, he was employed by the Palmer Funeral Home in Lebanon, Mo. and from 1962 until 1968, he was employed with the Chapel of Flowers Mortuary in San Jose, Calif. From 1968 until his retirement in 2001, Doug owned and operated Griswold-Kays Funeral Home in Eldon, Mo. In 1990, he became a partner in the Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home in Tipton until 2000. He also owned and operated C. & G. Real Estate Company in Eldon for 25 years and was a partner in 5 Diamonds. Doug served as the Miller County Medical Examiner for 12 years. He was a member and deacon at Southridge Baptist Church in Jefferson City and had been a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Eldon, Mo. He was a lifelong member of the Eldon Kiwanis Club and a member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the Jefferson City YMCA Tennis Group and was active in Living in Retirement. He also enjoyed trout fishing, coffee with his buddies every morning at McDonald's, playing cards, and wintering in Florida. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Mary A. Griswold; one daughter, Mara Campbell and her husband Carter of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Joe Griswold and his wife Joyce of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, TarAnn Barrett and her husband Mike of Florissant, Mo., Abbey Campbell of Waco, Texas, Kara Vernon of Overland Park, Kansas, and Rob Vernon of Jefferson City, Mo.; one great-granddaughter, Linden Campbell Barrett; two brothers-in-law, Mac Crawford and his wife Terri of Lexington, Kentucky and James Crawford of Danville, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Ferrell and her husband Darrell of Danville, Kentucky and Martha Brackett of Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Raymond Herman Rackers, 95, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Adams Street Place. He was born June 14, 1919, in Jefferson City, the son of the late William Albert and Elizabeth Margaret (Bellman) Rackers. Raymond served his country during World War II with the United States Army. He was united in marriage on November 23, 1946, in Jefferson City to Bernice Bee Luebbert who preceded him in death on July 21, 1993. Raymond worked as a core driller for the Missouri State Highway Department and also worked part-time for Crown Drug. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, and Knights of Columbus. Raymond was devoted to his church and religion. He also was instrumental in helping to establish the Samaritan Center. He volunteered his time while his sons were active members with the Boy Scouts. In his spare time, Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include: two sons, Bob (Lisa) Rackers, Jefferson City and Andy Rackers, St. Louis; and three grandchildren, Clint Rackers, Meghan Rackers and Evan Branson. A former resident of Jefferson City for 33 years, Patricia was employed with Sears as a parts clerk until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of Southridge Baptist Church in Jefferson City and has been a member of First Baptist Church of Maryville, Illinois for the past year. Patricia loved volunteering for her church and adored working with children. Most importantly, she treasured time spent with her family and friends. Alice Pauline Dudley, 95, of California, Mo., passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014, at Nuevant House East, in Lawrence, Kan. Alice chose to pass quietly and comfortably attended by AseraCare Hospice and her immediate family. She was born September 18, 1919, near Lohman, the daughter of Harry and Rosa Rockelman Wilson, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her brothers, Carl as a child and Edward at age 100 earlier this year. Alice married John Dudley of Centertown, on August 17, 1940. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1994. Survivors include: son, John Eugene (Gene) Dudley and wife Toni; grandson, Chris Dudley and wife Dawn; granddaughters, Joyele Irons and Megan (Tony) Mendez; great-grandchildren, Darik, Madison, and Jakob Dudley, Josephine (Josie) Irons and Wakoda Mendez, who is expecting a little brother in April 2015. Alice lived in the Russellville area most of her life and was educated in Russellville schools. She lived in Phoenix, Ariz. from 1949-1956. Returning to Missouri, she worked at McGraw Edison and Shop-Smith in Jefferson City for 28 years, making many valued and long-lasting friendships. After retiring from McGraw's quality control area, she became a travel booking agent, hosting several bus trips and cruises. Alice enjoyed continued contact with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Alice was proud of being the inventor and owner of U.S. Patent number 6,230,341, which was approved May 15, 2001. She was also an avid gardener. Weather and health permitting, you would most likely find her in the back yard, attending her flower beds, planting, cultivating or harvesting her vegetables and beloved strawberries which she enjoyed sharing with her neighbors and friends this past summer. Alice was baptized and joined the Russellville Methodist Church in 1958, transferring to California United Methodist Church in 1996. Alice was a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and Centertown American Legion Aux #531. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the funeral home. Edwin Henry Strobel, 90, of California, went to his heavenly home on Monday, December 15, 2014, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born to Adam and Mathilda (Fluegel) Strobel on October 19, 1924 near Lohman. Edwin was baptized on November 1, 1924 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lohman. He attended Mt. Hope School. Edwin was confirmed on April 2, 1931 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lohman. On May 8, 1955 he was married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in California to Velma L. (Bleich) Strobel, who preceded him in death on August 3, 2014. Edwin enjoyed woodworking and gardening with his wife. Through the years, Edwin worked at Stockman Feed, Popp's Lawn and Garden, Arkansas Valley Feather, and was a livestock and grain farmer. He purchased the first twine baler in the Russellville and Lohman area and did custom hay baling and custom grain harvesting in the area. Most of all he loved being a partner with his wife raising their children and working on the farm. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Edwin is survived by: one son, Paul Strobel (Marsha) of Tipton; three daughters, Naomi Pearson (Jack Greer), Martha Phillips (Eddie Dean), all of California, and Mary Bestgen (John) of Clarksburg; one sister, Esther Goldammer of Jefferson City; one brother, Herbert O. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He met Betty Lue Fredericken on the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. They married and were stationed in Norfolk, Va. Mike and Betty Lue had two children, Diane and Mike. They farmed in Nebraska and lived in Livingston, Texas, before settling in Jefferson City, Mo., where Mike worked as an accountant for the Missouri Public Service Commission for many years. Michael Nels Hudgins was lost in a private plane accident in 1967. Betty Lue died from breast cancer in 1970. Mike married Judy Curre in 1971. They moved to Texas, ranching in Kennedy, Crocket and Mt. Pleasant. Mike's surviving siblings are James and Alice Hudgins (Mabel Hudgins deceased), Tommy and Ann Hudgins (Ruth Hudgins, deceased) and Howard Hudgins. Siblings, Charles Hudgins and Mary Ellen Hudgins pre-deceased him. His parents also raised four orphaned nieces and nephews, including Kitty Reeder Southard. Bill, Donna and Frankie Reeder all pre-deceased him. Mike is survived by: his wife, Judy; mother-in-law, Sally Powell; Diane and Larry Ross and their three children, Robin, DeAnna and Tracy; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; Kevin and Becky Hudgins and their children, Kade, Kyle and Keeley; and Kim and Greg Holt, their daughter, Lacy and Kyle Boyd and two great-grandchildren; and Chase Holt, pre-deceased, and his wife Lindsey and son. Mike was proud of his Hudgins ranching heritage in south Texas and was happiest out on the range with his cattle, wearing his boots and Stetson. He was a wonderful husband and father, a man of strong values, principles and ethics; he had a huge, compassionate heart. He loved fiercely; his memory will be cherished by all of us who knew and loved him. His family is truly grateful for the incredible staff of the Cottages Rehab Facility and their compassionate care. Lawrence is survived by: his three children, Christopher Clouse and son, Anthony, both of Leavenworth, Kan., Derek Clouse of Jefferson City, Mo. and Christina (Kerr) White, her husband, Kyle and their three children, Hailey, Conner and Jay, all of Jefferson City, Mo. Lawrence is preceded in death by: his wife, Paula (Middleton) Clouse; and his parents, Lawrence and Martha Clouse. There will be a closed funeral service on Friday, December 19, 2014. Larry Dean Steinmetz, 73, of Holts Summit, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Larry was born January 23, 1941, in Wainwright, Missouri, the son of Harry and Susie Branch Steinmetz. He was married on November 4, 1972, to Donna Baysinger. He worked at the Callaway County Power Plant for 13 years, then he worked as a logger for Jerry Holland until his retirement due to illness. Larry enjoyed coon, deer and turkey hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and longtime friend Jim Fenton. He will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna Steinmetz of Holts Summit; step-daughters, Betty (Greg) Cruz and Tina (Tim) Dearing; three granddaughters, Alexzandria and Bethany McCullough and Taylor (Connor) Michael; siblings, Roger Steinmetz, Minnie Smith, Stanley Steinmetz, and Wanda Craighead, along with many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne and Bob Steinmetz; sisters, Emily Bainer and Ruth Gordon. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Bull Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Ada Marie Croy, 104, of Centertown, Mo., passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014, at her home. She was born on March 1, 1910, in Irontown, Mo., the daughter of Elmer E. Delozier and Martha Jane Burns, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on May 9, 1928, in Eldon to the late Andrew Jackson Croy who preceded her in death on September 12, 1989. A vibrant part of the 21st century, Ada Marie Croy developed and maintained an excellent reputation as a housewife, seamstress, employee of Chesebrough Ponds, and a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Director and Teacher, Vacation Bible School Director and Womens Missionary Union President. Survivors include: two sons, Jim Croy and wife Dorothy of Jefferson City, Mo. and Jerry Croy and wife Sharon of Centertown, Mo.; one daughter, Chlora Reimler of the home; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: one son, Marschel Croy; one grandson, Kevin Croy; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Carey, Adam Markway, Abby Croy; great-great-grandchild, Hailey Glavin; and six brothers; and four sisters. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014, at the funeral home. Neva Ellen Simion, 85, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on October 22, 1929, at Jamestown, Missouri, a daughter of the late Louis and Elsie Roedel. She graduated from Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School in 1947. Neva was married on November 16, 1951, to Jack L. Simion, who passed away in 2007 after 56 years of marriage. Neva earned her B.A. in Fine Arts from Lincoln University, taught at Russellville High School, and later became an ASVAB test administrator for the local Armed Forces recruiters. She lived in Jefferson City until 2013, when she moved to Las Vegas to be near her only child, John L. Simion. Neva is survived by her son, John L. Simion; two grandchildren, John M. Simion and Scott M. Simion; and a sister, Gladys Stauffer. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
