Christopher Tyler Gill, 21, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014, due to injuries sustained in an accident. He was born September 19, 1993, in Columbia, Mo., a son of Timothy Lee and Renee Sue (Sisk) Gill. He was a 2013 graduate of Eugene High School. Chris was an assembly worker for Gateway Industries in Eldon, Mo. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Holts Summit. He enjoyed playing bingo, working on motorcycles, fishing, camping, listening to country music, and hanging out with his dad. Most of all, Chris loved his family and friends. Obituary for John P. Huckabee
John P. Huckabee, 70, of Owensville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at his home with his family by his side. He was born August 26, 1944, in Paragould, Arkansas, a son of the late Thomas J. and Annie (Porine) Huckabee. He attended high school in Paragould, Arkansas. On March 16, 1968, John was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to Sharon Shoults, who survives at their home. John worked in the factory business, and had worked for Pretium Package in Hermann, Missouri. He previously worked for Charles E. Still Hospital; Delong Steel; and the McGraw Factory, all in Jefferson City. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1968. John was a member of the Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed riding his tractor and doing outdoor work. He loved to spend time with his kids and grandchildren, and give rides to the grandkids on his tractor. He also enjoyed cowboy movies and family movies. When he was younger, he enjoyed riding motorcycles. John was a true family man and a pure hearted country guy. Along with his wife Sharon, John is also survived by two sons: John Leslie Huckabee (fiancÈe Carey) of Owensville, Mo.; Jeffrey Scott Huckabee (friend Trish) of Owensville, MO; one brother: William "Dub" Huckabee of Doniphan, Mo.; three grandchildren: Jessica, Melissa, Damon; three step-grandchildren: Destiny, Samuel, Faith; and two great-grandchildren: Addyson and Logan. He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Kimberly Sue Huckabee in 1988; and 10 siblings: Lois, Eugene "Gene", Calvin, London "Lonnie", Leon, Larry, Virginia, Shirley, Bonnie, and Sandra. James Joseph "Jim" Kleffner, 76, of Brinktown, departed this life on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, in the St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City. He was born on April 22, 1938, in St. Louis, a son of Lawrence Stephen and Elizabeth Margaret (Steinman) Kleffner. Jim was united in marriage on September 8, 1962, to the former Miss Sharon Kay Cross, and to this union, three children were born. On May 3, 1959, Jim entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States, and he took his basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood. Jim's major instruction course field was academic, and following his time of training, he was transferred to the United States Army Corps Reserve on November 2, 1959, from Company C, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, United States Army Training Center, Fort Leonard Wood. Jim continued to serve the United States of America in the United States Army Reserve until he was honorably discharged. He was a lifelong member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Brinktown, a member of the Lischwe-Brandel American Legion Post No. 354 in Brinktown, and a 4th Degree member of the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council No. 2047. Jim had served on the board of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission, St. James, the Three Rivers Electric Cooperative, Linn, and the Maries R-1 School Board, Vienna, for three terms. He was elected Presiding Commissioner of Maries County in 1986 and continued to serve in that position until his retirement in 2006, when he completed 20 years of service to Maries County. Jim was a lifelong farmer in Maries County with his farm and family being elected the Missouri Farm Family of the Year, the American Royal Farm Family of the Year for the Eastern District of Missouri, and numerous other awards pertaining to farming and agriculture. In addition to being busy with his farming and livestock operation, he especially enjoyed going fishing with his wife, children, and grandchildren, slow pitch softball, horse shoe pitching, and bowling. Those left to mourn the passing of Jim include: his beloved wife, of 52 years, Sharon Kay Kleffner, of the home near Brinktown; two sons, Paul Kleffner (Penny), Jefferson City and Larry Kleffner, Brinktown; one daughter, Lisa Johnson (Brian), Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Rachel Kleffner, Ryan Kleffner, Cory Johnson, Shae Johnson, and Caitlyn Kleffner; three brothers, Thomas Kleffner (Loretta), St. Charles, John Kleffner (Linda), Wardsville, and Jerome Kleffner (Donna), Ballwin; four sisters, Betty Winkelman, Ashland, Alice Robertson, Jefferson City, Cathy Allen, Jefferson City, and Donna Schwartze (David), Argyle; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence, on July 9, 1969; his mother, Elizabeth, on October 17, 2006; and seven brothers-in-law, Duane Robertson, Raymond Winkelman, Pierce Cross, Bennie Cross, Bill Cross, Frank Cross, and Myron Ferry. Visitation for Mr. Kleffner will be held from 4-8 p.m., on Friday, October 17, 2014, with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m., and from 10-11 a.m., on Saturday, October 18, 2014, all in the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown. Lottie Elisabeth Marie Powell, 94, of Rolla, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014. She was born to the late Johann and Marie (Schoerner) Hoffmann on May 11, 1920, in Carlsberg, Germany. On October 21, 1952, she married Thomas Eugene Powell in Las Vegas, Nev., who preceded her in death on May 26, 1989. Lottie was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla and was formerly active in the PTA. She was a gourmet cook, loved to garden and enjoyed the outdoors, especially going to Meramec Springs Park. In addition to her parents and husband, Lottie was preceded in death by an infant son, Milton, in 1953; one brother, Hans; and one sister, Trudy. She will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes her son, Tom Powell and wife Penny, of New Bloomfield, Mo.; grandsons, Paul Killian and wife Fallon, Christopher Killian and wife Brandy, Matthew Killian and wife Bobbie; seven great- grandchildren; and many dear friends. She was born on June 15, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Rudroff) Struemph, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on January 1, 1951, to Kenneth V. Wildhaber Sr., in Freeburg, who survives of the home. She was a 1949 graduate of Freeburg High School and later became the Co-Owner and Bookkeeper for Wildhaber's Marine Sales and Service. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Laurine was a member of Immaculata Club, was a part-time volunteer at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, assisted with Prayer Hour at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, enjoyed playing all games especially card games. She also liked to do crossword puzzles, reading, and sewing. She also loved to spend time at the river with family and friends but most of all, she loved to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cecil was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, playing golf, and spending time with his grandkids. Cecil was known for his kindness, teasing nature and generosity. Jane was born on January 30, 1935, in Chamois, a daughter to the late Joseph and Elanora (Bauer) Kaullen. Jane was a 1953 graduate of Chamois High School. On June 5, 1954, she was united in marriage to Elmer John Keilholz Sr. in Chamois. He survives of the home. Jane was a wonderful homemaker to her family and worked as a seamstress at Morrison Apparel Company in Chamois. She was a great cook, especially her fried chicken, apple pies and her breakfast ring. You never left her house hungry or without taking leftovers. Jane never met a stranger and loved her family gatherings. Jane was a big fan of George Strait, loved flowers especially yellow roses and enjoyed gardening. Jane loved her cats, hummingbirds and her puppy, Annie. Jane and Elmer enjoyed quilting and woodworking together creating many treasured keepsakes for their children and grandchildren. Jane was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Chamois. Obituary for Gilbert Joseph Schanzmeyer
Gilbert Joseph "Bert" Schanzmeyer, 89, of Jefferson City, died Friday, October 17, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 27, 1925, in Meta, the son of the late Henry J. and Theresia (Massman) Schanzmeyer. Bert was united in marriage on August 4, 1951 in Meta, to Helen Woody, who still survives. After Bert graduated as class valedictorian from Meta High School in 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He served two years during World War II as a 2nd lieutenant and pilot of the B-25 Mitchel. Bert received his honorable discharge with the rank of major in the USAF Reserves. After the war, along with his father and brothers, Bert founded Schanzmeyer Chevrolet in Meta and Owensville. In 1963, the brothers moved to Jefferson City and started Schanzmeyer Ford-Lincoln-Mercury. Schanzmeyer Ford was Missouri's largest full-line Ford dealership and was honored to be one of the top 10 dealerships in the United States. After retiring from the automobile business in 1975, the brothers became the owners and developers of the DeVille Apartments. Bert graduated from the Institute of Real Estate Management for both residential and commercial properties with a GRI designation and held a Missouri Real Estate Broker license. Bert served on the St. Mary's Health Center Foundation Board of Directors from 2005-2013. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, American Legion Post 5, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and St. Mary's Health Center Mended Hearts. He was an Accredited Visitor visiting heart patients at St. Mary's and also a past president. In addition to his wife, Bert is survived by four children and spouses: Ruth and Bill Stanton, Ponder, Texas; Ross and Linda Schanzmeyer, Jefferson City; Colette Tellman, Jefferson City; and Joseph and Cynthia Schanzmeyer, Osage Beach; 10 grandchildren: William Stanton, Patrick Stanton, Jennifer (George) Tergin, Ryan (Johnna) Schanzmeyer, Brooke (Sam) Wallace, Erin (Mike) Kliethermes, Vanessa (Eric) Stuckenschneider, Amanda (Gabe) Keilholz, Tyler (Maggie) Schanzmeyer and Aaron Schanzmeyer; nine step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren, and one brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Jean Schanzmeyer, Jefferson City. Bert was preceded in death by one son, Paul Schanzmeyer; brothers, Joseph, Arthur, Patrick and Henry "Hank"; sisters, Beatrice Kroll, Marie Schanzmeyer and Imelda Scheppers; and son-in-law, Edwin "Eddie" Tellman. Bert loved to play the fiddle and in his younger years played with a band for wedding and picnic dances. Family time was very important to him. He built a second home at the Lake of the Ozarks when his children were small where many weekends were spent in the summer fishing, boating and water skiing. As his children married and started their own families, there was always a place for us all to gather and enjoy the water. He was a loving husband and father, a kind, giving and honorable man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Cecelia Cemetery in Meta. Obituary for Robert N. "Bob" King
Robert N. "Bob" King, 86, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born on January, 27, 1928 in Millersburg, the son of Alexander Hubbard and Mabel Ruth Peyton King. Bob served in the United States Army Air Force. At Bridal Cave in Camdenton, on July 4, 1950, Bob married Wanda J. Moore, who survives of the home. Bob started his career as a Fireman in Columbia, and then served with the Mexico Police Department in Mexico. Bob moved to Jefferson City in 1952 when he accepted a position as Trooper with the Missouri Highway Patrol. Following the Patrol, Bob was a Deputy U.S. Marshall of the Western District, and then owned and operated Tanner Funeral Home from 1961 until 1969. Following a catastrophic loss from fire at the funeral home, Bob worked for and retired as an Investigator from the Missouri Department of Corrections. Post retirement, Bob enjoyed working part-time as a Doorkeeper in the Missouri State Senate. Bob was a member of the Jefferson City Masonic Lodge #43 AF & AM for over 50 years and was Past Monarch of Karim Kahn Grotto, Past Worthy Patron of Jefferson City Chapter #496 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Aleppo Grotto of Columbia. Bob was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Jefferson City; a Member of the American Legion Post #5, and a member of the First Christian Church of Jefferson City. Along with his wife, Bob is survived by his son, Spencer King (Michelle) of Kansas City; his daughter, Sheri Elliott (Tom) of Columbia; four grandchildren, Raichelle, Amy, McKenzie, and John; and one brother, Harold King of Independence; sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters, Helen Strawn and Carolyn 'Patsy' Harrison; one niece, Betty; and one nephew, John. The family would like to acknowledge and thank our very special friend Henrietta, and the services and friendship of Dr. Michael Dudenhoeffer and his entire staff. Visitation will be Monday, October 20, 2014 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 327 E. Capitol Ave., Jefferson City. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Lecuru, 57, of Pickerington, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, after four years fighting ALS. Mark was a passionate man who enjoyed music, baseball, his family and friends. He was extremely loving and proud of his three grandchildren: Madison, Katherine, and James. After his childhood in Linn, Mo., Mark went to St. Thomas Seminary in Hannibal, Mo., and the Pontifical College Josephinum and Ohio Dominican College. He worked as a securities trader for BancOne Corp. of Columbus, as a salesman and manager for Coyle Music, American Audio, Sound Ideas, Washburn Intl., and American Music Corp. He rocked and rolled with Jake Hess, Ukiah, and Rampage. He wrote many songs and books about car buying and his cancer ordeal, and had an unfinished book about Gaavy Cravath, homerun hitter from the deadball era. Mark is survived by: his devoted wife of 34 years, Melody; daughters, Lauren McAlexander (Ryan), Megan Lecuru (Ashley Nelson); mother, Dorothy Lecuru Welch (Don); brothers, Bruce Lecure (Shosh) and Paul Lecuru (Tonya); and many other loving family members and friends who were like family. Laurine G. Wildhaber, 82, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics. She was born on June 15, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Rudroff) Struemph, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on January 1, 1951, to Kenneth V. Wildhaber Sr., in Freeburg, who survives of the home. She was a 1949 graduate of Freeburg High School and later became the Co-Owner and Bookkeeper for Wildhaber's Marine Sales and Service. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Laurine was a member of Immaculata Club, was a part-time volunteer at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, assisted with Prayer Hour at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, enjoyed playing all games especially card games. She also liked to do crossword puzzles, reading, and sewing. She also loved to spend time at the river with family and friends but most of all, she loved to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons: Kenny (Diane) Wildhaber Jr. of Jefferson City and Jim (Lisa) Wildhaber of Wardsville; three daughters: Carol Sue (Kenneth) Menges of Jefferson City, Mary "Dee Dee" (Don) Mehmert-Cryderman of Jefferson City and Cynthia (Greg) Stokes of Jefferson City; one brother: Virgil (Aggie) Struemph of Freeburg; three sisters: Irma Stuecken of Freeburg, Rosemary Castrop of Yukon, Oklahoma and Alice Stratman of Jefferson City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Obituary for Robert Rex Crawford
Robert Rex Crawford, 78, of Lamesa, Texas, formerly of Iberia, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Bob was born March 2, 1936, in Griggsville, Illinois, to Harry Rex and Catherine Anne (Robinson) Crawford. The oldest son of four siblings, Robert grew up in Griggsville with his brothers, Richard and Edward, and his sister, Sally. Bob joined the US Marines in 1954. Transferring to the US Army in 1973, he completed 38 years of service to his country and retired from military duty in 1992. During his storied military career, 1st Sergeant Crawford served as a Cryptographer for Force Recon and as a Tank Commander in the Army. Robert honorably served multiple tours in Vietnam in the Walking Dead and received many awards and accolades including the Bronze Star. Reflecting his humble nature, Bob refused three Purple Heart citations, reflecting that he was "just doing his duty". After retiring from Bohn Aluminum in Beardstown, Illinois, Robert relocated to Iberia, Missouri where he served the community as Mayor for nine years. Robert held numerous memberships including the Knights of Columbus, the Disabled American Veterans Association, the Marine Corps League, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was married to Lorna Mae Gibbs on January 11, 1958. Robert shared his love and devotion to their children, Bobby Crawford of Jacksonville, Illinois; Paul Crawford of Moberly, Missouri; Tom and Dorrie Crawford of Clark, Missouri; Joe Crawford of Fulton, Missouri; John and Shawna Crawford of Holt Summit, Missouri; Clairesa and Doug Morris of Lamesa, Texas; and Carrie Crawford and Greg Marshall of Holt Summit, Missouri; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Crawford will be 9 - 11 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2014, all in the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, St. Anthony, Missouri with the Rev. Don (Donald R.) Moore, age 81, of California, Mo., passed away August 13, 2014. Don resided at the Veteran's Home in Warrensburg, Mo. for the past seven years. He was born October 23, 1932, in Cooper County Mo. He was the son of Carl and Bonnie (Carver) Moore, both deceased. He grew up in Bunceton, Mo., and graduated from Bunceton High School in 1950. Don served in the U.S. military. He was employed throughout his lifetime by Scherff Truck Line, SKX and Beaufort Truck Lines and concluded his life's work as a representative for the Central States Teamster Union. Don was married to Shirley (Bower) Moore on December 27, 1952. There were two children from this union: Michael Moore (with his wife Peggy, and their son, Joey Parrish) of California, and Pat Moore of Springfield, Mo. He is survived by his immediate family, two sisters-in-law and their spouses, and dear cousins. Don's sisters, Arlene Wisner and June Hurt, and their husbands, are deceased.
